Job Summary: To maintain PACE vehicles, pick up and deliver passengers on a door-to-door basis to and from destinations according to a pre-arranged schedule.


Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Receives daily schedule and routing for the transportation of PACE clients.
  2. Directly responsible for the safety of all passengers from time of pick up to the destination.
  3. Provide participants with door to door service assisting passengers on and off the vehicle and aids in carrying passengers’ personal belongings. May assist only in chair to wheelchair transfer and dressing in outerwear only (coats, hats, and accessories).
  4. Sign and complete the transportation Competency and Cell Phone Policy acknowledging you have read and understood the information provided.
  5. Secures each passenger in the vehicle before the vehicle is moved.
  6. Reports to supervisor any special situation with a passenger or a passenger’s home to avoid potential problems.
  7. Reports immediately to supervisor all company vehicle accidents; passenger boarding, on-board, or de-boarding injuries; and any citation issued for any reason.
  8. Reports to supervisor by the next business day any accident or moving violations while in personal vehicle.
  9. Keeps interior and exterior vehicle clean.
  10. Inspects vehicle daily by completing daily vehicle inspection log with date and initials. Immediately report any defects or malfunction by completing the PACE Vehicle Work Order Request required for system evaluation and communication with the Transportation Coordinator.
  11. Responsible for security of the vehicle when in possession.

12. Completes Mileage log and Vehicle control sheets for all participant transports.

13. Does not accept money or gifts from clients for services rendered.

14. Report passenger or caregiver complaints by completing a grievance report.

15. Keeps in regular contact with drivers, transportation coordinator and receptionist by cell


16. Attends appropriate training and staff meetings as required.

17. Other duties as assigned.

Employment Specifications:


Minimum High School Diploma


Must possess at least one year’s experience with a frail or elderly population and 1-3 year’s experience driving passenger vehicles for elderly and or/disabled passengers, or must be able to successfully complete a classroom and/or on-the-job training course(s). Must have had no moving traffic violations in the past 3 years; must have had no criminal convictions; must not be subject to a restraining order; must not be listed in the abuse registry of ND; must be able to pass an alcohol and substance abuse test; and must be able to safely operate large van or bus with skill and patience.

Valid North Dakota License with a class D endorsement

Special Training:

Must be able to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to adapt to change in a positive/professional manner. Must meet standardized competencies established for position. Must be medically cleared for communicable diseases. Must have all immunizations up to date before engaging in direct participant contact.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to see, hear, and verbally communicate. Must be able to move about freely and possess manual dexterity and visual acuity. Sedentary for long periods of time.

Working Conditions:

Primarily in a climate controlled-vehicle.
